Microwave & Oven Rental in Korea for Foreigners

Only some rental companies accept applications from foreigners. Products that accept them carry an 'Open to foreign applicants' label on the product page; products without that label are currently difficult for foreigners to apply for. Approval is decided by the rental company and confirmed during consultation. Korean nationals can apply for every product. If you only reheat and defrost, a plain microwave is enough and takes up less counter space. A convection oven (gwangpa-oven) adds grilling and baking, so it replaces the built-in oven that Korean one-rooms almost never have — useful if you roast, bake or cook rather than reheat. It is larger, heavier and draws more power, so decide by how you actually cook.

Both types sit on the counter: no plumbing work, just a free outlet and clearance around the vents. One-room counters are narrow, so measure width, depth and height and leave a few centimetres at the back and sides. A high-wattage convection oven is safer plugged straight into a wall socket rather than a power strip. Delivery is arranged for you, and what each product includes is confirmed during consultation.

Contract length and early-termination terms differ by rental company and product. If you move within Korea you take the appliance with you and report the new address; a relocation fee may apply. If your stay in Korea is still open-ended, ask about the term and the early-termination conditions before you sign — that is the single most useful question to raise during consultation.

Mostly the name. You pay a monthly fee to use the appliance, and when the contract term ends you either keep it or return it. Korean brands label the same structure 'rental', 'subscription' or 'membership'. Most items listed here run on a 60-month contract; some are 36, 48 or 72 months.
